With support from the BNY Mellon Foundation, student interns gain opportunities to explore the nonprofit world and experience work that delivers social impact.
During the 2015-2016 academic year, 23 talented and motivated students explored career opportunities with profit and purpose. Nonprofits and social enterprises like Echoing Green, Bridges Ventures and B Lab provided students with paid internships and unique work experiences. The participating organizations gained access to inquisitive, intellectually curious students who bring a fresh perspective to social challenges. Anika Islam, a student who interned at B Lab this spring, said, “I saw that companies can and should stand for something more than the bottom line. This is a value I intend to bring to every team and organization I go on to join.”
Delivered in partnership with the Zahn Innovation Center, a business and social impact venture incubator at The City College of New York, the BNY Mellon Foundation’s support of the Social Impact Internship Program is enabling 30 students to pursue internships during the 2016-2017 academic year. “Through their internships, the students have gained a clear understanding of how social organizations serve the community in numerous ways,” said Daisey Holmes, co-head of Philanthropy at BNY Mellon and President of the BNY Mellon Foundation.
