Global Head of Diversity & Inclusion
As Global Head of Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), Yau Cheng brings to her work a passion for diversity and inclusive leadership, as well as proven experience harnessing the power of communications to build and strengthen talent experiences, client relationships and brand differentiation.
Yau leads and drives BNY Mellon’s D&I strategy, goals and priorities for a global workforce that is more than 50,000-strong. She partners with senior leaders and employees to promote D&I as a driver of high performance, competitive advantage and sustained innovation and growth, for both organization and individual. By enhancing transparency and ownership across the enterprise, Yau helps empower inclusive leaders and increase accountability for all to leverage D&I in their daily work, interactions and achievements. She also engages with clients, peers, professional associations and nonprofits to share ideas and best practices to support D&I competency and accelerate progress.
Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Yau specialized in communications strategy at Deloitte, leading global initiatives focused on enhancing marketplace eminence and client consideration. She has also led executive communications strategy for Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Global Wealth Management division. Yau has served as a Chief Marketing Officer for a tech start-up and was Director of Marketing for a professional services company. Yau started her career in financial services as an equity investment analyst, and has held both buy-side and sell-side client-facing roles in corporate development, M&A and private equity.
Yau received her B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Illinois – Champaign/Urbana. She holds a Digital Media Marketing certificate from New York University. Yau lives with her husband in New Jersey, and enjoys cooking, hiking, biking and traveling. She also designs jewelry, and has been twice featured in InStyle magazine.
