A Message from Debra Baker
Managing Director, Head of Global Risk Solutions
BNY Mellon Asset Servicing
As clients and the market continue a laser-like focus on risk measurement, management and mitigation, a recent BNY Mellon video outlines a number of recent trends.
In addition, we discuss how investment practices have expanded in the area of Environment, Social, Corporate Governance (ESG) investing and how in 2015, BNY Mellon is building on its existing leadership in ESG to create a comprehensive social finance program to engage mainstream investors in investments that seek to both address complex social challenges and generate meaningful financial returns.
Through research partnerships, we’re exploring the opportunities to strengthen existing investment strategies and products, and the barriers and conditions necessary to attract significantly more capital to address sustainability challenges. One of BNY Mellon’s research partnerships will be with the University of Cambridge and will seek to better understand the market’s evolving definition of “materiality,” looking at how global companies, institutional investors and asset owners are approaching and defining ESG.
In addition, an advisory council consisting of leading academics in finance and asset management, including Dr. Harry Markowitz, Nobel Laureate and one of the founders of Modern Portfolio Theory, will help us explore the impact of ESG investing relative to financial performance.
