BNY Mellon Exchange Traded Funds Symposium

A Laser View of a Global Market

December 2014

BNY Mellon’s forum on best practices and insights for the ETF industry brought together ETF sponsors, Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs), Institutional Investors and investment professionals for networking and interactive discussions on new products and services, industry trends and perspectives.

The ETF industry is seeing strong year-over-year growth as assets have just passed a major milestone of over $2 trillion* and for that reason our third annual Symposium focused on the growth and popularity of ETFs. There was particular interest around new product trends such as Fixed Income Bond ETFs which allow large, more traditional asset managers to enter into the ETF space and the controversial, Non Transparent Actively Managed ETFs that sits between a mutual fund and an ETF and allows for active fund management of the ETF.

Other conference buzz centered on emerging ETF markets such as Vietnam and China. Recent regulatory changes and innovation in the ETF industry have been key drivers in opening investing in China from the United States. The ETF marketplace has helped to break down these barriers by offering new products such as the new China Local Bond ETF. Smart Beta ETFs, liquid alternative strategies, and the evolution of currency and hedging investment strategies were also featured during the Symposium.
