BNY Mellon to Host Third Annual Giving Tuesday Community Week of Impact

NOVEMBER 29, 2023

This week, BNY Mellon is kicking off the holiday season and “Giving Tuesday” with a global Community Week of Impact. The campaign, which will be celebrated this year from November 27 to December 5, encourages employees to support the local communities where they live and work, and exemplifies BNY Mellon’s commitment to giving back.

The Giving Tuesday holiday was created in 2012 as a day that encourages people to do good, especially amidst the busy holiday season. Today, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people around the world to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity. BNY Mellon has been officially celebrating Giving Tuesday with its employees across the globe since 2021.

Last year, BNY Mellon raised $1.2 million as part of the Giving Tuesday Annual Week of Impact, with participation from more than 2,400 employees from 10 different countries. This year’s campaign is a coordinated global event – engaging 12 philanthropic partners across global BNY Mellon locations, plus virtual participation. Programming includes a series of in-person and virtual volunteer events available for employee participation, ranging from wrapping holiday presents to packing food donations for families in need. Employees can also make a charitable donation throughout Community Week for a 2:1 company match.

So far this year, nearly all volunteer events are at maximum capacity for a projected 3,140 total volunteer hours. The week’s events began on Monday with a fireside chat moderated by Senthil Kumar, BNY Mellon Chief Risk Officer and Executive Committee Member, featuring representatives from God’s Love We Deliver and Restoration, both local New York philanthropic partners. Following the fireside chat, employees volunteered with God’s Love We Deliver to prepare and pack meals in their kitchens.

“I am proud to see so many BNY Mellon employees around the world dedicated to giving back this week,” Senthil said at the beginning of the week. “By serving our communities together, we strengthen our culture of teamwork and belonging and create meaningful change for those who need it most this holiday season.”

BNY Mellon is committed to empowering employees to give back to local communities. Eligible employees may take up to three days of paid volunteer time and receive company-matching donations for their time. Through these initiatives and more, BNY Mellon strives to mobilize company resources and employees’ talents to positively impact the communities around them.
