Making Programming Easy as Pi

BNY Mellon has provided grant and sponsorship support to the Raspberry Pi Foundation in the UK and Ireland since 2017 as part of its philanthropic strategy to develop technology skills in the next generation workforce. Through the company’s support of the Foundation’s Code Clubs, which children 9 to 13 years old can access after school at no cost, BNY Mellon has impacted over 18,000 young people, teaching them to code through discovery and play. In Raspberry Pi’s 13,000 Code Clubs, young people learn programming languages such as Scratch, Python, and HTML/CSS by building video games, animations, and websites; through discovery and invention, they develop skills to create in a digital world.
In addition to supporting Code Clubs, BNY Mellon sponsors Raspberry Pi’s Coolest Projects International in Dublin, a technology fair that encourages thousands of 7 to 17 year olds to design and share their tech creations. Now in its seventh year, the fair inspires and rewards innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship, and technology skills. BNY Mellon's sponsorship of the event is helping to foster the next generation of digital creators, innovators, and change makers.

The foundation’s namesake creation, the Raspberry Pi, is a low-cost mini computer used to teach basic computer science. Its size and cost make it convenient for use in schools and developing countries. Through BNY Mellon’s support of the Foundation’s programs, students have used this versatile device to create everything from simple computer programs to robots and smart home devices.
