Providing Help in Times of Need

Our most difficult challenges have taught us invaluable lessons about trusting in each other, supporting one another and being agile and resourceful so we can be prepared and apply what we’ve learned to avert or mitigate disasters.

In 2015, Chennai, India experienced severe flooding, displacing 1.8 million people according to media reports. BNY Mellon quickly launched a coordinated effort to help local employees obtain essential life necessities, like safe drinking water, housing and money. At the same time, we focused efforts on ensuring uninterrupted client service. We supported local relief charities with a significant donation, and employees around the world made personal donations to the local Red Cross, matched by BNY Mellon. In addition, our people contributed over the past several years to aid those affected by natural disasters, such as Hurricane Sandy ($1.5 million), the Haiti earthquake ($1 million), the Japan earthquake and tsunami ($770,000) and Typhoon Haiyan ($385,000), among others.
