Volunteering and Philanthropy

March 2016

Outside of their daily work responsibilities, our people find ways to share their skills and expertise to make humanitarian and social impact through pro bono volunteerism and personal donations.

In 2015, the impact of Powering Potential included:

  • 140,000 volunteer hours (up from 127,000 hours in 2014)
  • Aggregate company, foundation and employee financial contributions of $40 million (up from $38 million in 2014)
  • Job training for 5,600+ individuals
  • Education for 8,100+ individuals
  • Mentorship provided to 6,000+ young people
  • Emergency, transitional and permanent housing provided to 2,400+ vulnerable individuals
  • Clothing provided to 29,500+ individuals
  • Contributions of $1.3 million to fight hunger around the world

“Our Community Partnership program helps our people to give something back to the communities in which we live and work. Paid volunteer time is an excellent opportunity to get out of the office to support local charities that you care about; these organizations receive not only volunteer assistance but also a charitable donation from BNY Mellon. It’s a win-win!”
