BNY Mellon is the only U.S. diversified financial company selected for inclusion in Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for three consecutive years. Meet the extraordinary team behind this achievement.
In 2016, BNY Mellon was named to the globally renowned and universally respected Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI) for an unprecedented third consecutive year. Why does this ranking matter and what does it take to achieve this level of recognition?
According to Heidi DuBois, Global Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Investing, “The DJSI is the single most reputable and coveted evaluator of sustainability performance in the world. If you make the Index, you’re one of the best. We want to be there. And we’re committed to remaining a leader.”
Increasingly, companies are making the connection between sustainability and business success. The DJSI ranking demonstrates BNY Mellon’s continued commitment and contributions to helping people and economies to thrive. Moreover, many sophisticated investors want to put their capital in the hands of companies who understand the business value of their sustainability initiatives and manage sustainability as they would any other strategic priority. They are seeking companies that are making a positive difference in the world and can sustain high performance in the long run. Being included in the DJSI allows investors to consider BNY Mellon’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance and a comprehensive, objective set of cross-industry, cross-firm data to make informed investment decisions.
A great deal of effort goes into building an inclusive, sustainable company, particularly on a global scale. Earning our status on the DJSI means we’ve raised the bar and are recognized for outperforming our peers in material categories and criteria of CSR leadership. Meet the extraordinary team behind this achievement: Samantha Hartzman, Anna Kearney, Cara Mercil and Lauren Odrechowski, led by Heidi. Tracking, compiling, evaluating and preparing the information required to participate in the DJSI is an extremely rigorous and time-consuming process. The team brings enthusiasm, expertise and conviction to the work. “They represent the cultural spirit of this place that strives to be recognized for being a good corporate citizen, and share their enthusiasm with everyone they interact with,” said Heidi. “We’re honored and privileged to do what we do, and very proud to share the DJSI award with our colleagues across BNY Mellon.”
“BNY Mellon’s vision is ‘Improving Lives Through Investing’, and appearing on the DJSI confirms we are achieving that. It lets everyone know the work we do – on behalf of our people, clients and investors – is, in fact, making a meaningful difference.”Heidi DuBois, Global Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Investing
