Our 2016 Retirement Summit brought together policy makers, plan sponsors and retirement solution providers to explore, discuss and share innovative retirement planning solutions.
Our 2016 Retirement Summit focused on the critical element of collaboration to create truly innovative retirement planning solutions. Industry experts, retirement companies, plan sponsors and wealth advisors assembled to discuss key trends, forces and new perspectives shaping the future of retirement. They also shared innovative ideas being put into practice across the financial services industry to address current and emerging challenges and opportunities.
As the Investments Company for the World, we’re invested in bringing together diverse perspectives and innovative thinking to address the most pressing challenges affecting our clients and our world. GENEDGE, our multigenerational employee resource group, planned the panel on the topic of Behavioral Economics: The Key to Addressing the Retirement Challenge, which opened the Summit. This discussion explored investor behaviors shaping decision making and how companies can help guide investors toward the best decisions for their future.
Leo Grohowski, chief investment officer of BNY Mellon Wealth Management, moderated the panel on behavioral economics, noting behaviors that appear age-related. “Many young employees have indicated they will increase their contribution to a retirement fund later, when they are earning more, but saving at a higher rate earlier will enable their retirement savings to grow faster.” The panelists agreed millennials are seeking aggressive investment strategies to boost savings, while employees closer to retirement are seeking to protect assets against market downturns.
Reflecting on her role in planning the event, BNY Mellon Associate and GENEDGE leader Heather Reisner said, “I feel a sense of pride in working here. This is a company that really cares about adding value to our clients, giving back to the community and really being at the forefront of our industry.“
