Recognizing that fostering a shared journey with opportunities for joint experiences can more deeply embed learning, BNY Mellon introduced Crossing the Finish Line (CFL) in 2015.
Crossing the Finish Line is one of several programs designed to help propel our top experienced professionals to the next level of leadership effectiveness while increasing the diversity in our senior ranks. The program piloted in 2015 and uniquely involved more than 30 of the company’s vice presidents and directors, with their managers, in a week-long leadership development experience. Sessions were led by world-renowned leaders of business schools. Participants gained critical skills in leadership, client relationship management and risk management.
A rigorous selection process, conducted by BNY Mellon’s Talent and Development and Diversity and Inclusion teams, ensured diverse participation ― 56 percent women, 69 percent diverse, with multiple business lines and geographic representation. Our senior management team invested time and energy to support CFL, with six Executive Committee members attending to speak about strategy, business and leadership and to share personal career insights. The pilot program was highly rated because of its thoughtful connection between participants’ learning objectives and critical leadership skills, such as effective communication, self-awareness and situational adaptability.
