Monique R. Herena is a Senior Executive Vice President of BNY Mellon and the company’s Chief Human Resources Officer. As Senior Executive Vice President, Monique oversees BNY Mellon’s Human Resources and Marketing & Corporate Affairs departments. Marketing & Corporate Affairs encompasses Corporate Marketing, Corporate Communications, Corporate Social Responsibility and the company’s community and employee programs. As Chief Human Resources Officer, Monique is responsible for all human resources strategies, policies and practices for more than 52,000 employees around the world. Further, she leads BNY Mellon’s efforts to attract, retain, develop and reward talent globally.
Monique is a member of BNY Mellon’s Executive Committee, the organization's most senior management body, which oversees day-to-day operations. BNY Mellon is the corporate brand of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation (NYSE:BK).
Monique is Chairman of the BNY Mellon Foundation and Executive Committee sponsor for BNY Mellon's Helping Each Ability by Respecting and Teaching (HEART) employee resource group. Reflecting BNY Mellon's commitment to diversity and workplace excellence, HEART is one of six employee resource groups that support employees with shared interests.
Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Monique spent 13 years with PepsiCo and advanced through a variety of leadership positions, most recently as Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer for PepsiCo Global Groups, Functions and Corporate. Prior to this role, Monique was the Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer for PepsiCo’s Asia, Middle East and Africa business, based in Dubai. She led human resources for this business, with over 50,000 employees and through numerous business model and human resources transformation efforts in China, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Earlier in her career, Monique held a number of senior human resources leadership roles across PepsiCo, including Senior Vice President and Chief Personnel Officer of PepsiCo North America – Quaker Oats, Tropicana and Gatorade and Global Research & Development, as well as Chief Personnel Officer for PepsiCo North America Sales.
Before joining PepsiCo, Monique worked for AlliedSignal in numerous U.S. and International human resources business partner, talent development and merger & acquisition roles in the Aerospace, Specialty Chemicals and Corporate divisions. Prior to joining AlliedSignal, Monique worked for The Quaker Oats Company in staffing, diversity and human resources business partner roles. She began her career as an executive retained search and organization change consultant.
She has been named as one of American Banker’s “25 Women to Watch” in recognition of her achievements and influence in the banking and financial services sector.
Monique is a board member of the Human Resources Policy Association and a graduate and faculty member of the Cornell ILR CHRO Top Seat program. She also completed the National Academy of Human Resources Foundation’s CHRO Academy and Kellogg School of Management Women’s Director Program.
Monique holds a B.A. in communication studies from the University of Wisconsin – Parkside, an M.A. in communication studies from Northern Illinois University and an M.A. in organizational psychology, with a concentration in change leadership, at Columbia University.
