Richard Brueckner is Chief of Staff of BNY Mellon. He is responsible for the corporate project management office, corporate affairs and marketing activities and administratively for the internal audit function which reports to the Audit Committee of the Board. He is a member of the company’s Executive Committee and chairs several other committees and subsidiary boards. BNY Mellon is the corporate brand of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation (NYSE:BK).
Rich joined The Bank of New York in May 2003 when Pershing was acquired from Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB). From 2001 he served as CEO of Pershing and as a member of the CSFB Executive Board after CSFB’s acquisition of Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette (DLJ) and Pershing in November 2000. He joined DLJ in 1978 and served as Treasurer of DLJ Securities Corporation and Chief Financial Officer of Pershing, where he has held a variety of senior management positions in administration, finance, marketing, and operations. Prior to 1978, he was a member of the management group of the Investment Services Department of KPMG where he was a Certified Public Accountant in New York.
Rich has served on the Board of Governors and as Lead Independent Governor, Chairman of the Finance and Operations Committee, and a member of the Executive Committee, Investment Committee and the Governance Committee for FINRA, the primary regulator for securities in the United States. He also served as Chairman of the NASD’s National Adjudicatory Council and as Chairman of the NASD’s New York District Committee.
He has served on the Board of Directors of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) and its predecessor organization, the Securities Industry Association where he was Treasurer and Chair of the Audit & Finance Committee. He is a Trustee and Chairman of the Board of the SIFMA’s Foundation for Investor Education. He has been active in SIA, serving as the founding Chairman of the Clearing Firms Committee, Chairman of the Membership Committee and Chairman of the New York District. He has also served on the Board of Archipelago LLC and as a Trustee for the Frontier Trust Company in Fargo, North Dakota and the United Way of Hudson County, New Jersey.
Currently he serves on the Board of ConvergEx and on its Management Compensation Committee. ConvergEx is an affiliate of BNY Mellon.
Rich has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He is also currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra where he is Treasurer and Chairman of the Finance Committee. He graduated from Muhlenberg College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1971 and received an honorary Doctorate in Humanities in 2013.
