BNY Mellon employees recently joined local students at Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Science Center to announce the naming of the BNY Mellon Fab Lab Carnegie Science Center and BNY Mellon Mobile Fab Lab.
The BNY Mellon Fab Labs are part of a global network of more than 1,200 Fab Labs, which are hands-on digital fabrication laboratories that serve as platforms for learning and innovation.
The BNY Mellon Fab Lab includes an on-site makerspace located in the Science Center’s Highmark SportsWorks®, and two mobile Fab Labs that bring student workshops and professional development opportunities for teachers to schools across the region. Both the on-site and mobile Fab Labs include 3D printers, laser cutters, computers and software, ShopBot CNC milling machines, electronics workbench equipment, robotics, a mini-mill, a 3D scanner and sewing and embroidery machines.

The BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania has sponsored the Science Center’s Mini Mobile Fab Lab since 2016. The newly named BNY Mellon Fab Labs are in recognition of BNY Mellon’s increased support of the Science Center’s Fab Lab and its dynamic educational offerings.
“They [BNY Mellon] jumped in with both feet to support us,” said Jason Brown, the Science Center’s Interim Director. “Our Fab Labs offer students, educators, and community members an exciting place to play, create, learn, mentor and invent. “The BNY Mellon Fab Lab Carnegie Science Center welcomes people at all levels of experience to join the maker movement and become an inventor or entrepreneur. We’re thrilled to have BNY Mellon’s support as they join us in our mission to cultivate a STEM-literate community.”
