Our diversity and inclusion efforts succeed, in large part, due to the leadership of our Global Diversity & Inclusion Council. This governing body, comprising senior leaders representing all BNY Mellon businesses, functions and regions, is chaired by our CEO.
Members of the Council serve as stewards of our diversity and inclusion agenda and help drive culture change through their leadership roles, spheres of influence and networks. With a focus on strengthening an inclusive culture to support a sense of belonging and belief among our people that our differences enable us to thrive, Council members drive discussion and action across the spectrum of diversity and intersectionality of individual attributes and lived experiences, including gender, race/ethnicity, culture/heritage, generations, disability, cognitive diversity, gender identity and expression, education, military background, and socioeconomic diversity, among others. They convene during the year to raise issues, discuss challenges, share scalable successful practices and coordinate collective action to drive progress.
The Council is connected to broader, grassroots diversity and inclusion activities across the company, with Council members aligned to our Employee and Business Resource Groups. The Council is also connected to market-level or country councils in our APAC and EMEA regions to leverage global connectivity and collaboration and ensure diversity and inclusion engagement serves market-based priorities and needs.
