Head of Global Citizenship and Sustainability
Jyoti Chopra is Managing Director and Head of Global Citizenship and Sustainability at BNY Mellon. She joined the company in 2012 and is based in New York City. Her areas of responsibility include Corporate Social Responsibility, Philanthropy, Social Finance, Diversity and Inclusion and the Corporate Art Collection. She serves on the company’s Global Diversity and Inclusion Council. She is a member of BNY Mellon’s Senior Leadership Team and is the company’s representative to the Global Talent and Diversity Council of the Asia Society.
Previously, Jyoti served as the global leader for communications and public relations at Deloitte, where she was responsible for external relations, executive and internal communications. In 2011, she initiated and spearheaded the development of Deloitte’s first global diversity report. She joined Deloitte in February 2009 working for the Office of the CEO and the Global Chief of Staff where she was responsible for leading and managing strategic projects and supporting the Global CEOs office and the Executive team.
Jyoti worked at Merrill Lynch from 1998 until 2009. She was Managing Director and head of communications for the Americas and the Global Banking divisions at Merrill Lynch (comprised of approximately 30,000 employees). She led and managed the marketing and communications integration of First Republic Bank, which was acquired by Merrill Lynch in September 2007 ($1.8 billion acquisition with 2,000 employees). Previously, Jyoti was head of the Multicultural Group at Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management. This role included the development, strategic planning and execution of the wealth management business and marketing and client acquisition activities targeting diverse investors and business owners. These efforts focused on the affluent African American, Hispanic, LGBT, Native American, South Asian, Special Needs, and Women’s markets and centered on community relations, strategic partnership development, and recruitment and retention programs. Jyoti joined Merrill Lynch in 1998 as vice president and manager of education services and developed diversified financial educational and marketing programs targeted to women, families, domestic partners, and multicultural groups.
Jyoti served as Merrill Lynch’s representative to and Chaired the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) Diversity Committee from 2004-2009. She served as the firm’s representative to the SIFMA Investor Education Committee from 1998-2000. At Merrill Lynch she was a founding member and Senior Advisor to the global South Asian Professional Network. Before joining Merrill Lynch, Jyoti was a writer and media consultant who covered human development and issues affecting women and children at the United Nations. From 1993 until 1997, she developed an award winning global media campaign at the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), which entailed extensive educational outreach, global communications, advocacy and philanthropic work.
Jyoti was born and raised in London, England. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Honors degree in Journalism from New York University and an MBA from the University of Oxford. She completed the Securities Industry Institute at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 2002.
Jyoti has served on the boards of the Princeton YWCA and the Princeton Healthcare System. She is presently a member of the Diversity Advisory Board for Toyota Motor North America.
