Chief Executive Officer
Brian Shea is a Vice Chairman of BNY Mellon and a member of the BNY Mellon Executive Committee. He is also Chief Executive Officer of BNY Mellon Investment Services, which comprises the following businesses: Alternative Investment Services, Asset Servicing, Broker-Dealer Services (U.S. government securities clearance and tri-party repo collateral servicing), Clearing Services (Pershing), Corporate Trust, Depositary Receipts and Treasury Services. Brian also oversees Client Service Delivery (operations), client adoption of the BNY Mellon NEXENSM digital investment platform, and leads the Business Improvement Process for the company. Previously, Brian was chairman and CEO of Pershing LLC, a BNY Mellon company, and led all Pershing affiliates globally.
Brian most recently served on the Boards of Directors of the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation and the Insured Retirement Institute. He previously served on the Board of Governors of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD, now the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority), and chaired its National Adjudicatory Council and Membership Committee. He has also served on the NASD Dispute Resolution Board, Variable Annuity Utility Task Force, Mutual Fund Breakpoint Task Force, Mutual Fund Omnibus Processing Task Force, Member Admission Review Committee and District 10 (New York) Committee.
Brian was chairman of the membership committee of the Securities Industry Association (SIA, now the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, or SIFMA), and served on the SIA New York District Committee. He is a two-time recipient of the SIA Chairman’s Award for distinguished service.
Brian serves on the boards of St. John’s University, St. John’s University’s Institute for Catholic Schools and the Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation. He also serves on the board of the Catholic Foundation of Long Island, is a member of the Archdiocese of New York Cardinal’s Committee for Charity and serves on the International Advisory Board for the Program of Church Management at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, Italy. Brian previously served on the Board of Governors of St. John’s University and as chairman of the boards of St. Joseph’s School and Notre Dame School, both in New York. He is a past chairman of the Bishop’s Advisory Committee for Catholic Education in the diocese of Rockville Centre, also in New York.
Brian earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from St. John’s University and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Pace University. He holds an Honorary Doctorate in Commercial Science from St. John’s University. He also completed the SIFMA Securities Industry Institute program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
