Shannon Kennedy to become regional president for BNY Mellon Wealth Management in Newport Beach Serving Orange and San Diego Counties
NEW YORK, June 5, 2013 — The wealth management business of BNY Mellon, the global leader in investment management and investment services, has hired Shannon Kennedy to become regional president for Orange and San Diego counties in Southern California. This newly created position marks another step in BNY Mellon Wealth Management’s previously announced long-term strategic recruitment and hiring effort. She will be based in Newport Beach and report to President David Emmes, who heads US Markets-West for the wealth management firm. Kennedy officially starts on July 8.
Kennedy joins BNY Mellon from Northern Trust where over her 26-year career she held progressively responsible positions, most recently as global director of sales, marketing and portfolio management for the company’s global family and private investment offices group. Among her other responsibilities in that role, she worked with exceptionally wealthy families who had in excess of $200 million and with their staff in identifying trends and facilitating client networking groups. During her tenure for more than six years she also served as a board member of the Northern Trust Company of Delaware.
A long-time Chicago resident and former member of Crain’s Chicago Business “40 under 40” list of up-and-coming executives, Kennedy is moving to Southern California to take up her new role. “This leadership position at BNY Mellon Wealth Management, with its rich tradition and commitment to excellence, is a great opportunity,” Kennedy said. “I am particularly impressed by the incredible investment BNY Mellon is making in its wealth business. It’s a real differentiator for us in our industry.”
“The Orange County-San Diego region is a key and fast-growing wealth market. Shannon’s leadership and experience will help us build on our terrific momentum by further expanding our network and client base in Newport Beach and throughout the region,” Emmes said.
Kennedy earned her undergraduate degree in business administration and MBA with honors from Loyola University. Among the several community organizations Kennedy has been involved with, she has served for seven years as Vice President for Leadership Greater Chicago and for more than 13 years has been a member of the Executive Club of Chicago.
