BNY Mellon’s commitment to carbon reduction has earned the company recognition as a leader in efforts and actions to combat climate change. Just 9 percent of the companies assessed made it onto CDP’s global Climate A List. CDP is an international, not-for-profit organization that runs the global disclosure system enabling companies, cities, states and regions to measure and manage their environmental impacts.
As a company, BNY Mellon is contributing solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges through business, operations and advocacy efforts. This is the fourth consecutive year the company has been named to the CDP Climate A List.
“We’re proud to say our business is carbon neutral,” says Karen B. Peetz, President of BNY Mellon. “Through a combination of focused emissions reduction efforts and the purchase of carbon offsets and renewable energy products, 100 percent of our direct, indirect, and business travel related greenhouse gas emissions were offset in 2015.”
BNY Mellon is one of only four US-based financial companies to appear on the 2016 Climate A List.
“Our commitment to a low-carbon future is both a benefit to our environment and to our stakeholders,” says Carol Britton, Chief Operating Officer of Corporate Services at BNY Mellon. “We see the connection points between the financial and natural ecosystems and take actions that allow them to support each other.”
“In addition to this recognition from CDP, BNY Mellon has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index’s World Index since 2014,” says Jyoti Chopra, head of BNY Mellon Global Citizenship and Sustainability. “We also earned the top ranking among our peers from Bloomberg for environmental, social and governance disclosure and we’ve been included in the FTSE4Good Index for four consecutive years.”
“We congratulate the 193 A List companies that are leading the charge towards our low-carbon future,” says Paul Simpson, CDP’s chief executive officer. “Companies are key actors in enabling the global economy to achieve its new climate goals, and the leadership of this group points the way for others to take bold action and capitalize on the many opportunities that await.”
The Climate A List is released as part of CDP’s Out of the starting blocks: Tracking progress on corporate climate action report, which establishes the baseline for corporate climate action. The report shows global corporations have started the transition to a low-carbon economy.
