Company Honored with 100% Score for Tenth Consecutive Year
BNY Mellon, the Investments Company for the World, received a perfect score of 100% on the 2017 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. BNY Mellon joins the ranks of 517 major U.S. businesses which also earned top marks this year.
“As we celebrate our tenth straight year receiving a perfect score on the Corporate Equality Index, we take pride in, and celebrate, our vibrant culture that results from the inclusion of all people,” said Jyoti Chopra, BNY Mellon Head of Global Citizenship and Sustainability. “At BNY Mellon, we are committed to improving lives through investing. Our work begins within BNY Mellon, but extends well beyond our workplace as we continue to advocate for and foster fairness, dignity and respect for all.”
PRISM, BNY Mellon’s award-winning resource group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and ally (LGBTQA) employees, helps to create an open, supportive environment both within the company and through collaboration with clients seeking to improve their own diversity and inclusion efforts. For example, PRISM consulted with a major Japanese insurance company as it worked to grant rights to same-sex couples. BNY Mellon professionals also helped to create the LGBT Bar, a first-of-its-kind comprehensive listing of tax laws for same-sex married couples in all 50 states.
"We want our people to thrive, grow and take pride in who they are and where they work," Chopra continued. "Through embracing our differences we are better able to recognize our strengths and share them with the world.”
The 2017 CEI rated 1,043 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBT community. BNY Mellon’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria results in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality.
