In the latest installment of our “Meet the Team” series, we talked with Jeff Lunglhofer, Chief Information Security Officer. He talked about the challenges of recruiting cyber security talent, some of the top threats to the financial services sector and how the industry is responding to concerns. An excerpt of our conversation is below.
How would you define the cyber security talent recruiting landscape?
Finding information security talent is a tremendous challenge across the board for every large company and institution today. There’s a global shortage of cyber security talent- our universities and schools simply can’t churn out enough qualified and trained individuals to satisfy all the job needs that exist today in the industry. We’ve had great success in identifying a blend of new graduates right out some of the top cyber security programs that exist out there in some of the colleges and universities today and also bringing on board folks that have been operating from within the financial services sector for a number of years who really understand the core technology operations of BNY Mellon and other global financial sector services firms. Blending that new talent, fresh ideas, with the deep understanding of the financial services sector is a great way to build a high impact cyber security team.
