Heather Crowley-Kerr, head of BNY Mellon’s Global Delivery Centre in Poland, shares her insights on the importance of talent and local community partnership.
Firstly, I love the sheer energy, enthusiasm and pride of the people I work with here. Secondly, I enjoy living in Wroclaw and learning a new culture that is so rich in its history and traditions. And lastly, I realised how lucky I am to have this job and work for a company that focuses on professional development and career mobility opportunities.
BNY Mellon’s Wroclaw office was selected in 2012 as one of BNY Mellon’s six Global Delivery Centres under the firm’s ongoing strategy to optimise infrastructure to support global growth. With a large student and graduate population, Wroclaw is a university city surrounded by other significant university centres including Katowice, Krakow and Poznan. The deep pool of well-educated business professionals with excellent English and other foreign language skills was a key consideration in selecting our Wroclaw office as one of our six Global Delivery Centres.
We deliver important fund accounting and administration services, business applications and technology solutions both for clients and BNY Mellon, including almost all of BNY Mellon’s businesses and corporate functions. Our key services are Operations, Asset Servicing, Issuer Services, Technology and Business Support Functions.
Our Operations teams provide support services across a number of areas of the business including mutual fund and hedge fund accounting, securities data management, client activation, regulatory administration and middle office operations. The Asset Servicing and Issuer Services teams support functions such as depositary services and corporate trust. In addition there is a team dedicated to providing technical and client support to external and internal clients including Eagle Investments Systems, a BNY Mellon Company.
Our Technology teams provide clients' businesses with software and infrastructure engineering designed to enhance their ability to deliver for their own clients. Additionally the teams provide support for quality and process assurance, testing, software change management, end user experience services, and management reporting and analytics.
In addition, the Global Delivery Centre in Wroclaw also performs a number of support functions for Human Resources, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Project Management and Employee Training and Development.
Many of our new employees join our Operations teams, where they build key skills and expertise in mutual and hedge fund accounting, regulatory reporting and securities data management, among other disciplines.
Some new hires develop expertise in a variety of Asset Servicing and Technology roles and functions related to financial accounting, trade and cash settlement and reconciliation, and quality assurance. More recently a growing number of our employees are joining areas such as Technology, Risk Management and Compliance. In a highly competitive international labour market, the Wroclaw Global Delivery Centre plays an important role for BNY Mellon as a centre of excellence that attracts and retains top talent. BNY Mellon Science represents our strategic centre of excellence for quantitative and analytical work focused on risk management across BNY Mellon globally, delivering valuable insight and risk quantification across the firm. It comprises an engaged team of professionals with expertise in financial industry practices and regulation. The team in Wroclaw works closely with colleagues across the business to support modelling and data analytics for the firm’s capital adequacy, market risk and enterprise risk activities.
Broadly speaking, our focus is on equipping the future workforce with critical business and technology skills and our Community Partnership programme is structured to promote skills-based volunteerism. Our employees regularly take advantage of a key benefit that allows them to spend up to three volunteer days annually where they apply their talent and expertise with organisations benefitting Wroclaw and other communities throughout Poland.
Looking ahead, I am excited by our recent commitment to two important charities, Junior Achievement Foundation Poland (Fundacja Młodzieżowej Przedsiębiorczości) and NESsT. Junior Achievement Foundation Poland is part of the largest global network providing financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship learning for young people. NESsT invests in social enterprises that generate dignified jobs for people most in need. Our support will enable targeted beneficiary groups to raise aspirations and employability skills.
