BNY Mellon Named to 2022 Disability Equality Index

July 21, 2022

BNY Mellon was named to the 2022 Disability Equality Index (DEI), a prominent benchmarking tool for Fortune 1000 firms to gauge their level of disability workplace inclusion against competitors. The index recognizes organizations for self-reporting their disability inclusion policies and practices and was developed by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and Disability:IN.

In 2022, 415 corporations, including 69 Fortune 100, 188 Fortune 500 and 227 Fortune 1000, utilized the DEI to benchmark their disability inclusion efforts.

For the third year in a row, we scored 100 percent in the DEI, demonstrating improvement through intentional action and our continued commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace. BNY Mellon was also named as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion.”

“Raising awareness and educating ourselves on diverse abilities is key to promoting an inclusive, equitable workplace, that helps everyone feel that they belong,” says Hani Kablawi, Chair of International and Executive Sponsor of BNY Mellon’s HEART employee/business resource group for diverse abilities. “I’m extremely proud to see BNY Mellon recognized for our continued efforts around fostering a culture of inclusion that values diverse skills and different lived experiences.”

About the DEI

The Disability Equality Index (DEI) is a comprehensive benchmarking tool that helps companies build a roadmap of measurable, tangible actions that they can take to achieve disability inclusion and equality. Each company receives a score, on a scale of zero (0) to 100, with those earning 80 and above recognized as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion.” The DEI is a joint initiative of the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), the nation’s largest disability rights organization, and Disability:IN, the global business disability inclusion network, to collectively advance the inclusion of people with disabilities. The organizations are complementary and bring unique strengths that make the project relevant and credible to corporations and the disability community. The tool was developed by the DEI Advisory Committee, a diverse group of business leaders, policy experts, and disability advocates. Learn more at: www.DisabilityEqualityIndex.org.
