BNY Mellon Named One of the Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion

July 18, 2019

BNY Mellon today announced it was named to the 2019 Disability Equality Index® “Best Places to Work” by Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD).

The company’s employee resource group HEART (Helping Each Ability by Respecting and Teaching) worked in partnership with Human Resources to submit the national survey on the firm’s disability inclusion policies and practices. HEART and HR regularly review our company’s policies and business processes that affect people with disabilities. BNY Mellon’s priority is to promote an inclusive working environment by increasing awareness of the needs of those with disabilities and to provide an educational forum on disabilities for all employees.

“This is our first year participating in the Disability Equality Index and BNY Mellon’s 90 score reflects our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone feels included, valued, and able to contribute to their best abilities,” said Lester Owens, Senior Executive Vice President, Head of Operations and Executive Sponsor of HEART at BNY Mellon. “It also helps us understand where we must improve. I look forward to working with the senior leadership team to further enhance disability inclusion within our organization.”

The Disability Equality Index (DEI®) is a joint initiative of the AAPD and Disability:IN and was designed by a diverse group of business leaders, policy experts and disability advocates. The DEI measures key performance indicators across organizational culture, leadership, accessibility, employment, community engagement, support services and supplier diversity.
