The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation ("BNY Mellon") announced today that the company and two employees recently received highly regarded LGBT+ honors further demonstrating its ongoing commitment and support for LGBT+ employees.
For the fourteenth year running, BNY Mellon received a 100 percent score on the Human Right Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, which is considered the benchmarking tool for U.S. businesses in the evolving field of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender equality in the workplace. Companies are scored among several categories, including: workforce protections, inclusive benefits, supporting inclusive culture and corporate social responsibility, and corporate citizenship.
Showcasing the incredible efforts of individual employees and the significant role our employee and business resource groups play in creating a culture of belonging, Paul Camp, CEO of BNY Mellon Treasury Services, and Genesis Garcia, Vice President of Global Marketing at BNY Mellon Pershing, were named to the 2020 OUTstanding LGBT+ Role Model Lists, published by the nonprofit INvolve, and supported by Yahoo Finance. The annual honor recognizes LGBT+ leaders in the business community for their professional achievements, as well as their commitment to diversity, equity and belonging both inside and outside the workplace.
Paul Camp serves as the executive sponsor of PRISM, BNY Mellon’s employee resource group focused on promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion. Named to the 100 LGBT+ Executives list, Paul is a visible role model who engages with individuals and teams across BNY Mellon to understand their specific concerns, and offers guidance, sponsorship and mentorship. Last year, Paul’s team partnered with Vodafone and Out & Equal Workplace on a panel discussion about bridging communities. The engagement addressed the vital importance of diversity, equality and inclusion within both the workplace and our personal lives. It explored how to be resilient, what it means to be an ally, and how to stay engaged and supportive of the LBGQ+ community within a virtual setting.
Genesis Garcia was named to the 100 LGBT+ Future Leaders list. Genesis serves on the Global Operating Committee for PRISM. During 2020, she was part of the leadership team which launched the "Consciously Unbiased" series globally. She also led planning for the 2020 Pride Month events and spearheaded a three-part series on allyship with Out & Equal. Genesis is a member of the Open Finance Executive Committee and is on the Programming Board and Board of Advisors for StartOut, a nonprofit helping LGBT+ entrepreneurs connect with investors, mentors and sponsors.
“We are proud to be recognized by these two prestigious organizations and to be named among leading companies’ actively driving LGBT+ equality and inclusion,” said Yau Cheng, Global Head of Diversity & Inclusion. “We are even more proud of the day-to-day actions of our people who bring to life our belief in the strength in diversity and commitment to LGBT+ inclusion, and make us one of the ‘Best Places to Work’ for LGBT+ talent.”
