BNY Mellon Is Enhancing Policies and Procedures to Prevent Future Security Incidents
BNY Mellon is fully committed to maintaining the most robust policies and procedures to protect confidential information. We have taken several new steps to continue enhancing our security policies and procedures and minimize such threats in the future. For example, as of May, 2008, all back-up tapes created for all BNY Mellon Shareowner Services' New Jersey data servers are encrypted. Other steps include:
- Conducting a thorough, top-to-bottom review of existing policies and procedures to ensure the Company has
industry-leading security measures in place across all of our businesses. - Hiring a leading independent security consultancy to conduct an objective review of our policies, procedures and controls.
- Implementing a company-wide program requiring that, when technically feasible, confidential data be transferred within the Company via direct encrypted electronic transmission in order to minimize the need for data storage tapes and their transport.
- Instituting new stringent standards for the transport of confidential data, including a list of premium vendors that must meet such standards.
- Initiating a company-wide awareness and training program on data security for all employees.
