Protecting Client Information

Protecting the Confidentiality and Integrity of Our Clients' Information Is a Top Priority For The Bank of New York Mellon.


We learned earlier this year of two isolated incidents in which back-up data storage tapes were discovered missing from third-party couriers working for the Company's BNY Mellon Shareowner Services and Working Capital Solutions businesses. We take these incidents very seriously and sincerely apologize to all of those impacted.

We have been or are in the process of notifying individuals whose personal information may have been included on the tapes.

We are providing comprehensive fraud protection assistance to individuals whose personal information may have been included on these back-up data storage tapes. This includes two years of free credit monitoring, $25,000 worth of identity theft insurance, reimbursement for the cost of one placement and one removal of a credit freeze for each of the three national credit reporting bureaus, and dedicated hotlines to respond to any consumer questions and assist with any concerns that these individuals might have.

We also have initiated a thorough, top-to-bottom review of our existing security policies and procedures to ensure the Company has industry-leading security measures in place across all of our businesses. And, we have taken several new steps to continue enhancing our security measures and minimize such threats in the future.
