William A. ("Woody") Kerr is Vice Chairman, Europe and CAO of the EMEA region - BNY Mellon. In addition, he has responsibility for Client Management in the Nordic and Baltic regions. He was named to his current position in June 2009. Immediately prior, he was Co-Chair of the EMEA region since July 2007, when he relocated to London at the time of the Bank of New York Mellon merger.
Before the merger Woody was Executive Vice President and Head of Human Resources for The Bank of New York. Prior to joining Human Resources in November 2004 as Deputy Head, he had management responsibility for much of the Bank's corporate banking activities in the United States and served as a member of the Corporate Credit Committee. He was named Senior Vice President in 1997 and Executive Vice President in 2003.
Woody started his career as a management trainee at Irving Trust Company in 1979, a firm which was later acquired by The Bank of New York. He spent five years as a Client Executive within the U.S. Financial Institutions area, where he was responsible for relationships with banks, thrifts, finance companies, and leasing companies. In the late 1980s, he served as Assistant Head of Government Relations and as a member of the Corporate Restructuring area where he was responsible for loan workouts. Following the acquisition, Mr. Kerr held positions of increasing responsibility in Corporate Banking.
A graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, Mr. Kerr resides in London with his wife and two children.
