Kurt D. Woetzel


Kurt Woetzel is Head of Bank Operations and Technology for BNY Mellon. As head of Technology, he is responsible for the company's Information Technology (IT) organization worldwide, including the technical infrastructure, software development and business processes of the company.

As head of Bank Operations, Mr. Woetzel is responsible for the company's banking operations and for its business continuity planning and corporate services worldwide, the latter of which includes security and facilities management. Mr. Woetzel is also the company's Chief Innovation Officer. In this role, he directs company resources and establishes processes in support of accelerating new product development and innovation across global markets.

BNY Mellon is the corporate brand of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation (NYSE:BK).

Mr. Woetzel joined The Bank of New York in 1985 in the Broker Dealer Services business line, and in 1990 he became head of that division. Then in 1995, Mr. Woetzel headed up the Securities Processing Systems Division. In 1998 Mr. Woetzel became head of the company's software development process. In this capacity, he was responsible for developing the technical architecture governing the integration of numerous and complex, large-scale acquisitions involving extensive client portfolios. He was named CIO and head of technology in 2002 and Head of Bank Operations in 2009.

He began his career in 1978 at the Adolph Coors Company, where he was head of data processing operations, responsible for one of the largest corporate data processing centers in the mountain states region. In 1984 he left Adolph Coors to form a software start-up company that provided manufacturing software to small- to medium-sized firms nationally. In 1985 he sold the company to Control Data and started his career at The Bank of New York Mellon.

Mr. Woetzel is a member of BNY Mellon's Executive Committee, the organization's most senior management body, which oversees day-to-day operations. He is also a member of the company's Women's Initiatives Network (WIN) Steering Committee. He is a former director of the boards of the Society of Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT) and the Government Securities Clearing Corp. Mr. Woetzel is currently a member of the advisory board of Pace University School of Computer Science and a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Hall of Science.

In 2005, Mr. Woetzel was named Innovative CIO by Bank Systems and Technology and named Leader in Finance by CNBC. In 2006, he was named Premier 100 IT leader by Computerworld magazine. In 2007 Mr. Woetzel was winner of Info Week 500 and the recipient of the American Financial Technology Awards. In 2008 he was named the Number One Innovator by Bank Technology News and given the Leadership and Service in Technology Award from Pace University's Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems.
